Update: Mpinganjira Appointed U-23 Coach as Kukoma Diamonds Dominate Netball League

Update: The Football Association of Malawi has appointed Bob Mpinganjira as the head coach of the Malawi Under-23 national team, according to FAM. The decision arrived less than 24 hours after Mighty Wanderers suspended Mpinganjira following their 2-1 defeat to Ekhaya FC in the Airtel Top 8 final on Sunday. Mpinganjira is now tasked with leading the young Flames in their bid to qualify for the 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, with the qualification campaign beginning against Eswatini.

In other football news, five Malawian match officials have been selected by the Confederation of African Football to officiate in the preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Interclub competitions, as announced by FAM on Monday. The selected officials include Easter Zimba, David Chinoko, Samuel Fudzulani, Lameck Phiri, and Sibusiso Sibande. The local football governing body stated that this international exposure aims to build a stronger pool of referees capable of handling major continental tournaments.

In netball, Kukoma Diamonds continued their strong run in the FDH Premier Netball League with a 61-49 victory over Tigresses at Blantyre Sports Arena on Sunday, according to Nyasa Times. The win completed a perfect weekend for Kukoma, who defeated FLC Netball Team 57-25 the previous day. According to the Malawi News Agency, Kukoma head coach Noel Musa praised his team's performance, while Tigresses coach Peace Kalua noted that a lack of squad depth and available substitutes affected their endurance during the match.
