The Malawi government has formally withdrawn its nomination of Allison Liwanda as Ambassador-designate to Kuwait. According to a diplomatic note dated August 31, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation notified Kuwaiti authorities of the withdrawal without providing a specific reason, reports Nyasa Times. The decision confirms that Abdul Karim will remain in his post as the substantive Ambassador of Malawi to Kuwait.
In regional defence cooperation, the Malawi Defence Force Command and Staff College in Salima is hosting military delegates from nine countries for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Combined Joint African Exercise Uhuru, which commenced on August 31. Ahead of the regional military drills, the visiting international delegates participated in cultural and wildlife tours to build collaborative ties among SADC forces, according to the Malawi Defence Force.
Meanwhile, Malawi is preparing to host a United Nations Economic Commission for Africa national workshop on green industrialisation from September 7 to 8. The country is part of a broader six-nation UN-backed initiative aimed at climate action and reducing regional reliance on raw natural resource exports. According to a UN Economic Commission for Africa statement, the project concluded its Zambian leg on August 31, where leaders urged Southern African countries to develop local productive industries.
