Mighty Wanderers are preparing for a major continental clash as Tanzanian side Simba SC arrived in Lilongwe on Friday ahead of their CAF Champions League first-leg match. According to Sports News Malawi, the encounter is scheduled for this Sunday at Bingu National Stadium. Regional sports platforms report that Simba travelled with a competitive squad but left behind five players, including Shomari Kapombe and Nickson Kibabage, for undisclosed reasons.

In national football news, the Football Association of Malawi has outlined the schedule for the Flames' opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Malawi24 reports that the national team will launch their Group B campaign at home against South Sudan on September 25 at Bingu National Stadium. The team will then travel to face Angola in their second match on October 6.

In netball, analysts have raised concerns over the Malawi Queens' delayed training camp ahead of the African Netball Championship in Kenya. According to Nation Online, the tournament will serve as a qualifier for the 2027 Netball World Cup. Despite worries from former players about the late start, head coach Debbie Fuller expressed confidence in the team's readiness. She noted planned friendlies against South Africa and Namibia alongside the expected return of Australia-based shooter Mwawi Kumwenda-M'bwana.
