President Arthur Peter Mutharika has appointed veteran diplomat Ambassador Chimango Chirwa as the new Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to Nyasa Times. The appointment, which takes immediate effect, comes as part of a government reshuffle ahead of the administration's one-year anniversary. Chirwa previously served as the ministry's Chief of Protocol and replaces outgoing Principal Secretary Chancy Simwaka.
In regional diplomacy, Second Vice President Enock Chihana called on international entrepreneurs to invest in Malawi's healthcare and education sectors during a visit to Botswana, MBC Online reports. Speaking at the launch of the African Hero Foundation, Chihana assured foreign investors of a stable business environment and pitched opportunities to fund modern hospitals, laboratories, and educational infrastructure.
Furthermore, Malawi is currently hosting United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) workshops focused on green industrialization, according to the UN agency. The event, running from September 7 to 8, aims to advance regional studies on climate action and sustainable economic growth across Southern Africa.
