In regional diplomacy, Khwauli Msiska, Malawi's Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union and UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), held talks with Diane Sayinzoga, Head of the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Africa Regional Office. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that the two officials focused on strategies for economic growth and trade facilitation. UNCTAD committed to assisting Malawi with cross-border trade reforms and the implementation of the World Trade Organization's Trade Facilitation Agreement.
Update: Following recent commitments to green industrialisation, the Malawian government and the United Nations hosted the National Workshop on Innovative Climate Action in Lilongwe between September 7 and September 8. During the event, ECA Subregional Director Eunice G. Kamwendo and Principal Secretary for Industrialisation Bright Molande urged the private sector to lead the climate transition. According to the ECA, the officials highlighted that green industrial policies are essential for creating jobs, building economic resilience, and strengthening Malawi's position within regional value chains.
