The Malawi Police Service has launched an investigation following the abduction of a 47-year-old British national, Nasrat Osman, in Blantyre, according to Malawi24. Osman was kidnapped on Friday in the Mount Pleasant area by four men who forced her into a grey Nissan Dualis and fled the scene. Authorities are actively searching for the suspects and the victim, offering a K30 million reward for information leading to her rescue.
In a separate incident, three people were killed and three others injured in Zomba after a long-standing land dispute escalated into violence, Malawi24 reports. Eastern Region Police spokesperson Patrick Mussa confirmed that the clash occurred between the clans of Group Village Headman Mbalu and Village Headman Chidothi over land used for rice cultivation. The High Court had previously ruled in favor of the Mbalu clan in late 2025.
Update: Human rights activist Sylvester Namiwa has formally pleaded not guilty to treason and publication of false news before the High Court in Lilongwe, Nation Online reports. During the plea hearing, state prosecutors made a surprise bid to revoke Namiwa's bail, prompting objections from defense lawyer Gladwell Majekete, who argued they were not served with the application in advance. Judge Mzonde Mvula ordered the State to formally file the application, setting the substantive trial to begin on October 14.
Meanwhile, in legal news, lawyer Alexious Kamangila is pressing the High Court for a hearing date regarding his defamation dispute with Judge Kenan Manda, according to Nyasa Times. Kamangila, who was found liable for defamation earlier this year, filed an application in July to set aside an order that removed his defense but has faced a two-month delay. The court registry has also demanded Kamangila explain why he livestreamed a virtual scheduling conference on Facebook without authorization, an action the lawyer defended as serving the public interest.
