Update: A forged letter circulating on social media claiming that Chakwera would refuse to appear before a parliamentary committee investigating a recent plane crash has been debunked. Nyasa Times reports that Chakwera's spokesperson, Gift Nankhuni, dismissed the September 14 statement as entirely fake. Nankhuni clarified that the former president's office had no involvement in the document and noted that Chakwera is expected to cooperate with the ongoing inquiry.
