Update: A newly released Health Financing Progress Matrix report indicates that while Malawi is advancing toward Universal Health Coverage, significant inequalities and structural funding issues persist, according to Nation Online. Developed jointly with the World Health Organization, the assessment reveals that the national health system remains heavily dependent on external financing and is constrained by restrictive financial management at the facility level. Minister of Health Madalitso Baloyi acknowledged the country's steady gains in service coverage but noted the pressing need to address the widening service gaps between wealthier and poorer populations.
Update: The Ministry of Health and Sanitation has officially announced a nationwide Measles-Rubella Supplementary Vaccination Campaign scheduled to run from September 21 to 25, Malawi24 reports. The drive targets children aged nine months to nine years following the confirmation of 376 measles cases between January and August 2026. In addition to the vaccines, health workers will administer Vitamin A supplements to children aged six months to five years and conduct community awareness programs to promote routine immunizations and prompt medical care.
