Update: In higher education news, the Higher Education Students Loans and Grants Board (HESLGB) has officially rolled out a new biometric paperless system for student loan contract signing. According to Malawi24, students are now required to present their National Identity Cards and scan their fingerprints, which are directly verified through the National Registration Bureau (NRB) system. The digital transition eliminates the need for physical bonding forms and reduces the costs associated with printing and storing records. The electronic bonding exercise for the 2026/2027 academic year began earlier this month and is currently active at the Lilongwe and Blantyre campuses of the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), and the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST).

In a separate development, the High Court of Malawi has granted an injunction preventing the Malawi College of Accountancy (MCA) from stopping 115 students from taking their end-of-semester examinations. Malawi24 reports that the court order follows an application by Mtende Mvula and 114 other claimants. The students sought legal intervention to halt a college administrative decision that would have denied them the opportunity to sit for their exams. The court has directed the students to file their originating process within seven days, allowing the substantive issues between the claimants and the college to proceed to a full hearing.
