The World Bank has approved a $165.9 million grant to help Malawi build resilience against climate and economic shocks, according to Nyasa Times. Approved on September 17, the financing package falls under the Integrated Social Protection for Resilience and Opportunity Project, known as INSPIRE-O. The initiative combines adaptive safety nets with climate-smart public works. It will also deploy drought-responsive funding mechanisms across the ten most drought-prone districts in Malawi. Abdu Muwonge, the World Bank's country manager for Malawi, stated that the investment aims to support vulnerable households, particularly women and youth, as the country manages severe climate risks.

In local conservation efforts, the Monkey Bay Police Women's Network launched a community education drive focused on sustainable fisheries and environmental protection. Planet Defence reports that marine police officers, led by Assistant Commissioner Emmie Ngosi, conducted outreach sessions on September 17 at Nkope Community Day Secondary School and Kalenjeka Village. The program received support from the District Fisheries Office and the conservation organisation Ripple Africa. Authorities used the sessions to urge students and community members to protect Lake Malawi's fish stocks and comply with local fisheries management regulations.
