The Malawi National Netball Team, known as the Queens, has made a perfect start at the 2026 Africa Netball Cup in Nairobi, Kenya. According to Nyasa Times and Nation Online, the Queens opened their campaign, which serves as a regional qualifier for the 2027 Netball World Cup, with a commanding 72-38 victory over Zambia on Saturday. They followed up this performance on Sunday, September 20, by defeating host nation Kenya 55-47 to maintain a 100 percent win record in Pool 2.

Off the court, the Malawi National Council of Sports launched its 2026-2031 Strategic Plan at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe over the weekend, Nation Online reports. The five-year framework focuses on governance, talent identification, and resource mobilisation across the sporting sector. During the launch, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Alfred Gangata urged the private sector to invest in sports infrastructure and warned administrators against the misuse of public resources, according to the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation.

In domestic football, Blue Eagles have claimed the top spot in the standings as the top-flight league heads into a recess, following a 2-1 victory over Mighty Wanderers at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe, the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation reports. Meanwhile, in the National Division League, Songwe Border United advanced their push for promotion to the top tier with a 3-0 win against Ntaja United at Karonga Stadium on Saturday.
