Update: The Malawi Police Service has clarified the details surrounding the rescue of kidnapped British national Nusrat Osman. According to the Associated Press, Inspector General Richard Luhanga stated that two suspects were killed during a shootout with authorities in Blantyre, correcting initial reports that claimed four suspects had died. Deputy Inspector General Noel Kayira was wounded in the abdomen during the operation and is in stable condition at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital. Authorities continue to search for two remaining suspects involved in the September 11 abduction.

Following the operation, eight junior police officers were promoted to their next rank and rewarded with K1 million each for their roles in the rescue, Malawi24 reports. Inspector General Luhanga commended the officers for their bravery and professionalism, urging the broader police force to emulate their dedication to duty as investigations into the kidnapping continue.

In other news, Bishop Martin Mtumbuka of the Roman Catholic Church publicly condemned corruption and government negligence during a 125th-anniversary church service at St. Mary's Nzama Parish in Dedza, according to Nyasa Times. Pointing to the prolonged disrepair of the Tsangano Road, the bishop challenged both the congregation and attending government officials to take direct responsibility for the country's infrastructure rather than blaming historical colonial figures.
