According to Nyasa Times, the Malawi Queens have officially secured their place at the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney following a commanding 82-22 victory over Nigeria in the Africa Qualifiers on Monday. The 60-goal sweep against Nigeria came just a day after the Queens edged out host nation Kenya 55-47, keeping their perfect record intact in Pool 2.

In contrast to the women's success, the Malawi men's national netball team faced early struggles at the Africa Netball Cup in Nairobi. Malawi24 reports that the men's team suffered a 42-37 loss to Eswatini on Monday. Despite taking a 12-10 lead in the first quarter, the team lost its advantage before half-time, marking their second consecutive defeat in the tournament.

Update: Following the recent announcement of the National Bank of Malawi's K2.3 billion football sponsorship, the new women's football season has officially commenced. Nyasa Times reports that defending champions Silver Ladies opened their title defence with a 3-1 comeback victory over Kukoma Ntopwa Women at Mpira Stadium. Meanwhile, FCB Nyasa Bullets Women stated their own title ambitions by defeating Chitoliro Heroines 3-0.

In men's domestic football, the Blue Eagles have entered the league recess at the top of the standings. According to the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, the team secured their position as league leaders for the first time since 2016 after securing a 2-1 victory over the Mighty Wanderers.
