The Malawi Council of Churches (MCC) has warned that an administrative dispute could jeopardize $437.9 million in financing from the Global Fund for HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria programs, according to Malawi Nation. The impasse stems from disagreements within the Country Coordinating Mechanism over a vote to replace World Vision International with ActionAid Malawi as the community principal recipient for the 2027 to 2030 grant cycle. MCC board chairperson Reverend Billy Gama expressed concern over the stalled decision, noting that the delay threatens the health of millions of Malawians who rely on these medical interventions.

In observance of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Rotary Club of Lilongwe City Centre has launched an urgent blood donation drive to support pediatric patients at the National Cancer Centre, Nyasa Times reports. Rotary Club officials emphasized that blood transfusions are an essential component of cancer care, urging more Malawians to become regular donors to prevent treatment delays caused by supply shortages. Internationally, Médecins Sans Frontières announced it will present its experiences running cervical cancer care programs in Blantyre at the World Cancer Congress in Hong Kong this week to advocate for continuous treatment access in resource-limited settings.

Update: Malawi's nationwide measles and rubella supplementary vaccination campaign has officially begun, targeting over 5.8 million children aged nine months to nine years, according to Malawi24. The initiative, running from September 21 to September 25, aims to close community immunity gaps after the country recorded 376 confirmed measles cases between January and August. Minister of Health and Sanitation Madalitso Baloyi launched the drive, which will administer vaccines across all health facilities, schools, and temporary outreach clinics.
