Former President Joyce Banda has urged African leaders and the international community to move beyond political commitments and take concrete action to include women in peace processes in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Great Lakes Region, according to the Maravi Post. Speaking at a United Nations General Assembly sideline event in New York, Banda called for at least a 30 percent representation of women in mediation and ceasefire monitoring teams, Nyasa Times reports.

A group of 21 local economists has petitioned President Peter Mutharika to withhold his assent to the Economics Society of Malawi Act 2026, Nation Online reports. Coordinated by Blantyre International University chancellor Charles Chanthunya, the group argues that the legislation, which passed in Parliament in August, restricts professional independence and was drafted without adequate consultation, according to Nation Online.

Vice President Jane Ansah hosted a farewell luncheon in Blantyre for individuals with short stature and albinism who recently completed driving lessons sponsored by the Jane Ansah Foundation, Nyasa Times reports. During the event, Ansah encouraged the beneficiaries to pursue their goals and refuse to let societal prejudice limit their opportunities, according to Malawi Cables Online.
