The State of the African Diaspora (SOAD) has published the framework of a Cooperation Agreement with Malawi to encourage diplomatic and economic engagement, according to the Civil Society News Network. Announced on September 21, the agreement was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation George Chaponda and SOAD Prime Minister Dr. Louis-Georges Tin. The agreement aims to mobilize global diaspora networks to drive investment, encourage institutional dialogue, and support development projects in Malawi.

In international health developments, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) presented findings from its cancer programs in Malawi and Mali at the World Cancer Congress in Hong Kong this week. According to ReliefWeb, the medical humanitarian organisation used its operations in Malawi to demonstrate that effective cancer care is possible in resource-limited settings. MSF representatives urged global health actors to act quickly to break barriers to prevention, timely diagnosis, and adequate treatment for vulnerable populations.

Meanwhile, as the global community marks the International Week of Deaf People, the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has issued a five-point roadmap to address systemic discrimination. Malawi24 reports that the commission called on the government to deploy certified sign language interpreters across public institutions, including hospitals and police stations, to protect the rights of the country's estimated 400,000 Deaf and hard-of-hearing citizens. The MHRC also pushed the Ministry of Education to expand specialised teacher-training programs and integrate the Malawian Sign Language Dictionary into standard curriculums.
