In higher education, Malawi has secured a leading spot alongside Nigeria in Indonesia's 2026 Kemitraan Negara Berkembang Scholarship Programme. Nyasa Times reports that 18 Malawian students have been selected to pursue higher education at Indonesian universities. The Global Partnership for Education announced that this includes the confirmation of a $37 million pledge from the Federer Foundation. This funding, initially pledged during the Africa Foundational Learning Exchange conference in Lilongwe, will help expand foundational learning access in Malawi and neighbouring countries.
