Minister of Education, Science and Technology Bright Msaka has challenged Malawian universities to actively generate foreign exchange to help boost the national economy, according to Malawi24 and Nyasa Times. Speaking during a signing ceremony for public sector reform commitments in Blantyre, Msaka addressed institutions that include the University of Malawi (UNIMA) and the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS). He urged educational leaders to look to neighbouring Zambia as a model for enrolling international students and earning foreign currency.

In institutional news, Mzuzu University (MZUNI) has been recognised as one of the top ten public institutions in the country for complying with the Access to Information Act. AfricaBrief reports that the Malawi Human Rights Commission commended the university during the recent International Day for Universal Access to Information. The commission praised MZUNI for maintaining transparent information systems, an easily accessible website, and clear reporting frameworks that effectively serve the public.

Meanwhile, at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), newly inaugurated Professor Kennedy Machira has called for targeted strategies to involve the country's youth in national economic development. According to Nyasa Times, Machira delivered the remarks during his professorial inaugural lecture at the Bunda Campus, which focused on demographic change. He advised families and educators to actively mentor young people toward independent innovation and self-reliance to ensure long-term economic stability.
