According to Nyasa Times, the Malawi Government will host the National Agrifood Systems Investment Symposium on October 5, 2026, at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe. The Ministry of Agriculture, the National Planning Commission, and the German Technical Cooperation Agency organized the event to attract private sector funding to the agricultural economy. Authorities will present the latest design for the $2.4 billion Malawi Mega Farms Initiative during the symposium to secure large-scale farm investments.

Agricultural stakeholders are also rolling out new technological and financial measures ahead of severe weather forecasts for the upcoming planting season. AfricaBrief reports that Seed Co Malawi has upgraded its Seedney mobile application with artificial intelligence features. The digital platform now offers farmers real-time guidance on planting schedules and crop protection strategies to counter erratic weather.

Simultaneously, Charles Tenthani from United General Insurance launched an appeal for smallholder farmers to purchase agricultural insurance. According to Planet Defence, this campaign aims to protect rural investments from the strong El Niño drought risks predicted by the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services.

Furthermore, the International Water Management Institute published the new Water and Soil Accelerator baseline report on September 30, establishing a framework for expanding soil management and irrigation projects across seven Malawian districts. The study found that while many rural households use improved land practices, adoption remains fragmented due to water shortages and limited financing. These findings will help guide the targeted distribution of conservation resources to stabilize crop yields and food security.
