The European Union and the United Nations Development Programme have supported Malawi's disaster readiness by donating an emergency response vehicle to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs, according to a UNDP report. Presented in Lilongwe by EU Ambassador Daniel Aristi Gaztelumendi and UNDP Resident Representative Fenella Frost, the vehicle will help authorities conduct field assessments, monitor environmental hazards, and coordinate operations as the country prepares for the 2026 to 2027 El Niño season.

In diplomacy, Malawi's outgoing High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Thomas Bisika, launched a magazine this week documenting his tenure at Malawi House, Nyasa Times reports. The publication details his work across the UK, Ireland, and Nordic countries, highlighting a focus on trade, investment, and the promotion of the Malawi Diaspora Engagement Policy.

Update: Following earlier reports of the United States altering its global health aid structure, the US State Department formally activated its new implementation plans on October 1, Donor Tracker reports. As part of the policy change, the department notified Congress of its intention to establish direct government-to-government financing arrangements for health assistance in Malawi, Kenya, and Uganda.
