According to CitiNewsroom, a new pan-African music and cultural platform called the AfroBit Concert will make its debut in Blantyre on December 4, 2026. Operating under the theme "Music. Culture. Freedom.", the inaugural event aims to bring together artists, rappers, singers, and DJs from across the continent to celebrate Africa's diverse musical traditions. Organisers plan to establish the concert as an annual event to encourage cultural exchange and cross-border collaboration within the wider African entertainment sector.
The AfroBit Concert will serve as the main attraction of ABC FEST, which is the cultural finale of the Africa Bitcoin Conference 2026. Following the primary musical event, the celebrations are scheduled to continue on December 5 with a community football match and a festival highlighting African cuisine.
Update: South African amapiano artist Mawhoo was scheduled to perform at Scalla's Cafe in Blantyre on Friday, October 16, alongside local acts Fada Moti and DJ Flame. According to Nation Online, event organisers Kuwala Events pressed forward with the concert despite facing online backlash and formal petitions from local advocacy groups, including Voice of the Voiceless Malawi. The groups had urged a cancellation in response to recent anti-migrant tensions in South Africa. However, Kuwala Events coordinator Newton Chikakuda defended keeping the show on the schedule, stating the decision was strictly a business and entertainment matter.
