University of Malawi (UNIMA) students have been urged to adopt the Ubuntu philosophy to tell African stories rather than relying on Western models, according to Malawi24. During a lecture to Strategic Communication students in Zomba, visiting North West University scholar Dr. Musara Lubombo challenged the class to rethink how Africa communicates social change. The discussion aligns with a recently published book co-authored by UNIMA academic Dr. Chavinda, titled "Communication for Social Change in Sub-Saharan Africa," which critiques Western development communication frameworks and highlights the power of local narratives.
In other higher education news, a public debate has erupted over the financial struggles facing current university students following the removal of free meals in public institutions, Malawi24 reports. The discussion began after social media commentator Onjezani Kenani noted that financially disadvantaged students are suffering without the basic support enjoyed by earlier generations. While former students shared memories of receiving guaranteed warm meals, some critics accused the older generation of failing to preserve those educational privileges for today's youth.
