First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Victor Musowa has directed Members of Parliament to actively scrutinise government development projects and demand financial transparency, according to Nyasa Times. Speaking at the opening of the Parliamentary Training Programme at the Malawi School of Government in Lilongwe, Musowa urged lawmakers to stop letting the government off the hook and to question why similar projects often carry vastly different price tags. He emphasised that legislators must apply their legislative and technological training on the floor of the House to properly hold the administration accountable.

In other parliamentary developments, activists are mounting pressure on Speaker of Parliament Sameer Suleman to resign following his recent controversial remarks. Nyasa Times reports that the growing dispute has exposed internal divisions within the governing Democratic Progressive Party, with at least one parliamentarian breaking ranks to publicly defend the embattled Speaker despite the public criticism.
