The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is set to receive approximately $25 million, or K43.35 billion, over four years from the FIFA Forward development programme, according to Nation Online. The funding will provide about $6.25 million annually to support long-term football projects, youth development, and women's football.

In international football, the Malawi women's national team, the Scorchers, achieved the highest points increase of any nation in the latest FIFA Women's World Rankings released on October 20. According to FIFA and Premium Times, the Scorchers climbed 49 places to 104th globally, gaining 158.44 points following successful runs in recent Women's Africa Cup of Nations and Olympic qualifying matches.

In domestic women's football, Ascent Soccer Academy secured a 2-1 victory over FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women on October 18 at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre. The match took place during the fourth round of the NBM Women's Premiership, as reported by Sport News Africa.

The Basketball Association of Malawi (BASMAL) has postponed the National Elite Eight stage of the 2026 Mo626 College Basketball Championship, reports Malawi24. The event was originally scheduled to begin on October 24, but scheduling conflicts with sponsor National Bank of Malawi forced the delay. BASMAL announced on October 20 that the association will use the extra time to investigate player eligibility complaints raised during the regional preliminary games.
