The Reserve Bank of Malawi has enacted a major management reshuffle resulting in the immediate transfer of Deputy Governor for Operations Kisukyabo Simwaka and two senior directors, according to Nyasa Times. Through an administrative notice signed by RBM Governor George Partridge, Simwaka is leaving the central bank to join the Department of Economic Planning and Development within the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Decentralisation.
The central bank's restructuring also affects its communication and human resources departments. Nyasa Times reports that RBM Director of Public Relations Boston Maliketi Banda has been reassigned to the Malawi College of Accountancy, where he will work as a lecturer. Additionally, Director of Human Resources Esau Banda has been seconded to the Ministry of Industrialisation, Business, Trade and Tourism to serve as a Special Advisor on Trade and Industrialisation.
In wider economic policy, the national government is advancing efforts to shift the economy away from raw agricultural exports toward scaled production and manufacturing, according to Forbes Africa. President Arthur Peter Mutharika's current strategy focuses on commercialising the agricultural sector to boost food security while expanding local processing capabilities. Forbes Africa notes that the administration is also planning to improve industrial power generation and connect domestic businesses to broader regional markets, supporting the long-term goals of the Malawi 2063 vision.
