Malawians are expressing frustration over alleged corruption within the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services. According to Face of Malawi, citizens recently took to social media to dismiss anti-corruption warnings from Director General Dennis Chipao as the "same old song", claiming the corrupt practices are deeply entrenched in the system.

In cross-border crime news, South African authorities have charged businessman Suliman Carrim and two accomplices with attempted motor vehicle theft and fraud. The South African Police Service stated that the suspects appeared in the Musina Magistrate's Court on October 22. They were intercepted at the Beitbridge border post while allegedly attempting to smuggle financed vehicles into Malawi using fraudulent banking documents.

In local courts, the Monkey Bay First Grade Magistrate's Court penalized two foreign nationals for the illegal sale of medical drugs. Face of Malawi reports that Yeremiah Siganda, a Burundian, and Jessy Foster, a Rwandan, were fined a combined K1.15 million on October 23 for operating without legal authorization. Meanwhile, the Liwonde Senior Resident Magistrate's Court sentenced 27-year-old Mayeso Evance to eight years in prison with hard labor on October 22 for the indecent assault of another man in Machinga.

Police are also processing severe abuse cases this week. On October 23, Mulanje Police announced the arrest of 25-year-old Dalitso Majawa. Authorities accuse him of luring and defiling a six-year-old girl as she returned from school on October 19. Majawa remains in police custody awaiting a formal court appearance.
