Update: Following earlier meetings between the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) and French media company Canal+, new details have emerged regarding the broadcaster's integration into the local market. According to TechAfrica News, Canal+ executives committed on March 13 to promoting Malawian talent and creating local job opportunities following the company's acquisition of MultiChoice Group.
During the discussions, MACRA Director General Mayamiko Nkoloma raised concerns from local television broadcasters regarding the limited financial benefits of airing their content on DStv and GOtv platforms. In response, Canal+ pledged to maintain ongoing dialogue with local broadcasters on content monetisation and to expand their exposure across Africa.
