Update: Building on earlier coverage of Malawi's upcoming role as host of an African climate summit, preparations are advancing for the 5th African Regional Conference on Loss and Damage, scheduled for March 25 to 27. According to EnviroNews, the gathering will focus on advancing sustainable and equitable financing for climate-related loss and damage across Africa. Julius Ng'oma, National Coordinator of the Civil Society Network on Climate Change, stated that the summit will serve as a central forum to strengthen the continent's position in global climate negotiations and establish a regional roadmap for future disaster responses. The conference follows severe infrastructure and agricultural damage from previous tropical cyclones, including Idai, Ana, and Gombe.

In a related development concerning current environmental conditions, authorities have issued new weather safety advisories. According to the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services, the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone is causing fresh thunderstorms and localized heavy rains across Malawi's northern and southern areas. The department also warned communities and commercial operators along Lake Malawi to take appropriate safety precautions, citing the continuation of strong Mwera winds over the water bodies.
