Scotland has announced £400,000 in new humanitarian support for Malawi, citing climate shocks that have worsened food shortages, according to the Scottish Government. The funding will be delivered through Scotland’s Humanitarian Emergency Fund and split equally between Tearfund and SCIAF, the Scottish Government said.

The Scottish Government linked the assistance to prolonged dry spells and widespread flooding, which it said have contributed to crop failure and livestock losses, and that flooding has killed and displaced people while exacerbating food insecurity. It said the support will include training on cholera prevention, safe water usage, and hygiene practices to reduce disease risk, according to the Scottish Government.
