The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is urgently appealing for $13.3 million from international donors to cover a funding shortfall for its operations in Malawi between March and August 2026, according to a country brief published on ReliefWeb. The requested funds account for 38 percent of the agency's requirements to sustain emergency food logistics and nutrition support. The WFP noted that while the Lean Season Food Insecurity Response Programme was initially projected to cover food gaps through March, delayed rollouts mean distributions will continue into the coming months. In February alone, the UN agency assisted 1.23 million Malawians, distributing over 18,000 metric tonnes of food and $2.4 million in cash transfers.
