Former Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) Secretary General Hellen Tasosa Mpinganjira passed away on Tuesday morning at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, according to Face of Malawi. Netball Association of Malawi chairperson Vitumbiko Gubuduza paid tribute to the late administrator, noting that she played a major role in the development and growth of netball in the country.

In football, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has appealed to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture for a K600 million bailout to clear unpaid debts owed to service providers, Nation Online reports. FAM president Fleetwood Haiya made the request during a meeting with Sports Minister Alfred Gangata in Lilongwe, explaining that the arrears were incurred through the national teams' foreign travel and accommodation expenses. Gangata advised the association to submit a formal request through the MNCS for Treasury consideration.

During the same meeting, FAM announced plans to hire permanent assistant coaches for the national team after local clubs, including Silver Strikers, refused to release their staff for the upcoming four-nations tournament in Botswana, according to Nation Online. Ministry spokesperson Macmillan Mwale confirmed the discussions but stated the association should fund the permanent coaching positions using its existing K3 billion government grant rather than requesting additional money.

In cricket, the Malawi national team is preparing to open its campaign in the African qualifiers for the 2028 T20 World Cup against Tanzania on March 24, The Respondent reports. The regional qualification tournament is scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, where Malawi will compete in a group that also includes Eswatini, Saint Helena, Seychelles, and the host nation.
