The 2026 Lake of Stars Malawi Arts Festival is set to take place from October 2 to 4 in Nkhotakota, following an official announcement of the dates on Monday. According to Malawi Tourism, the theme for this year's edition is "Festivals with Purpose: Inspire, Connect, Invest, Celebrate." The three-day event will feature a mix of live music genres, including amapiano, afro-beats, jazz, and rap, alongside fashion showcases, visual arts, and local cuisine.
Organisers confirmed the return of the community homestay initiative, which allows attendees to lodge with local families in nearby fishing villages. This programme is designed to promote cultural exchange and ensure that tourism revenue directly benefits residents. Humphrey Mpondaminga, Director of the Department of Arts in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, praised the event's ongoing contribution, stating that it has shaped artists and redefined the music industry's role in local tourism. Sharmila Elias-Taijala, Director of the production team DOPE, added that the festival serves as a foundation for creativity and economic growth. Ticket details and the official artist line-up will be released in the coming months.
