Inspector General of Police Richard Luhanga has launched a formal investigation into allegations that the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) used the state-run Mtakataka Police Training School to train political cadres, Nyasa Times reports. In an interview with Times Television, Luhanga confirmed the probe into the presence of MCP-linked individuals at the facility. He stated that government security institutions are strictly for training law enforcement officers and that appropriate action will follow the investigation.

Update: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is reviewing a formal complaint over allegations that the National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) awarded a contract to Savari, a company allegedly tied to barred businessman Zuneth Sattar. According to Nyasa Times, ACB Director General Gabriel Chembezi confirmed the bureau is handling the complaint filed by the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives and will issue a formal position on the matter.

Update: The state is proceeding with an application to discharge the corruption cases against former Cabinet Minister Charles Mchacha. Nyasa Times reports that an upcoming court hearing will determine whether to terminate the 2021 case. The ACB previously accused Mchacha of diverting public funds from the Lilongwe Water Board for a hotel stay and illegally acquiring public land in Kanjedza Forest.
