Organisers have officially confirmed the schedule for the 2026 Lake of Stars Malawi Arts Festival. According to a March 19 update from Malawi Tourism, the popular event will return to the shores of Lake Malawi from October 2 to 4 in Nkhotakota. The three-day festival will feature a wide variety of entertainment, including live bands, amapiano, afro-beats, jazz, and hip-hop. The programme will also include fashion exhibitions, poetry readings, film screenings, and workshops aimed at supporting local artists.

In other developments for the creative sector, the Copyright Society of Malawi is participating in new global talks concerning artificial intelligence and artists' rights. Malumbo Mkandawire, Director of Operations for the society, represented Malawi at the launch of the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Interchange in Geneva on Tuesday. The new initiative focuses on the technical challenges connecting artificial intelligence and intellectual property, according to a March 17 statement from the World Intellectual Property Organization.

Meanwhile, the local broadcasting and entertainment sector faces new regulatory updates. The Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority has tightened its rules regarding gambling advertisements across media platforms, according to the March 19 edition of The Daily Times. The new restrictions require mandatory warnings concerning underage gambling and limit the broadcasting times for gambling advertisements on television and radio.
