Malawi is set to host the 2026 Confederation of School Sport Association of Southern Africa (Cossasa) Games this August. This marks the first time the country will stage the regional youth tournament, according to Nation Online. The Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) officially announced the development and framed it as a major opportunity to showcase local sporting facilities and talent.

Massa president Blackson Malamula noted that the association is particularly pleased to host the event after the team did not compete in last year's Cossasa Games in Eswatini. In preparation for the August competition, Malawian student-athletes will report to a dedicated training camp during the upcoming Easter holiday between April 3 and 6.

The decision to host the regional games has secured full government backing. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology formally approved the bid, with Secretary Ken Ndala confirming that President Peter Mutharika endorsed the initiative. Government officials stated that the tournament will encourage the growth of athletics and ball games among students while strengthening relationships between participating Southern African states.
