In a unique intersection of justice and higher education, President Arthur Peter Mutharika pardoned 27 prisoners as an act of clemency timed with the Eid and Easter celebrations. According to a statement by Secretary for Homeland Security Linda Moyo, broadcast by MBC News and reported by Nyasa Times, the pardon covers inmates who have served half of their sentences, the elderly, women, and the chronically ill. Notably, the pardon also included inmates who have been selected to pursue higher education at public universities, allowing them to further their studies outside of prison.
