The Medical Council of Malawi has announced revisions to its professional registration and licence fees for the 2026/2027 financial year. According to the council's official communications released on March 27 and 28, the regulatory body also published its disciplinary determinations for March 2026 and issued notices regarding upcoming pre-internship examinations for medical professionals.

In public health research, a new cross-sectional study posted to medRxiv on March 27 detailed the success of Malawi's oral cholera vaccination efforts. The research analysed the country's response to the severe 2022-2023 cholera outbreak, assessing the effectiveness of a single dose of the vaccine in reducing cholera incidence and severity. The authors concluded that the vaccination drive successfully complemented other interventions, such as water, sanitation, and hygiene improvements, to reduce community transmission and severe dehydration rates.

Meanwhile, Malawi continues to manage ongoing cholera risks. According to a March 27 epidemiological update from the World Health Organization, the African region registered the highest number of new cholera and acute watery diarrhoea cases globally over the past month. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control similarly noted in a recent update that Malawi is among the nations still reporting new cholera infections in early 2026.
