Update: Following the recent announcement of the 2026-2027 season calendar, the Football Association of Malawi has confirmed that the opening Charity Shield match on April 18 will feature a Blantyre derby between Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. According to Nation Online, the Wanderers secured their spot in the traditional curtain-raiser as the defending TNM Super League champions, while Bullets qualified by winning the Castel Challenge Cup.

In women's football, the Malawi Scorchers are currently competing in the HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Women's Championship in Polokwane, South Africa. According to match reports from COSAFA, Malawi opened their Group A campaign with a 2-0 defeat against the host nation but quickly recovered to deliver an 8-1 victory over Lesotho. During the commanding win, Deborah Henry scored a hat-trick and Ireen Khumalo added two goals to secure crucial points in the group standings.

Meanwhile, in men's cricket, the national team is gearing up for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Sub Regional Qualifier B.
