Public Health Institute Reports 33,365 Malaria Cases and Rising Measles Infections

According to the Public Health Institute of Malawi, malaria remains the leading cause of morbidity in the country. Health authorities reported 33,365 cases and eight associated deaths during the second week of March 2026. The institute noted that transmission continues to be high in districts experiencing heavy rainfall and increased vector activity.

Additionally, the Public Health Institute of Malawi reported that cumulative confirmed measles cases for the year have reached 109 spread across 17 districts, including Balaka, Kasungu, and Chikwawa. In response, health officials are maintaining active disease surveillance and risk communication efforts nationwide to contain the spread.
