According to York University's YFile, associate professor Rachel Silver received a $500,000 grant from the Spencer Foundation on March 27 to study how Malawian schools are adapting to international aid reductions. The three-year research project will study how local educational organisations handle financial uncertainties and shifting foreign donor policies to maintain operations.

In response to severe flooding in Malawi, the international relief organisation Orphan Grain Train announced on March 27 that it is dispatching a 40-foot container of rice and other supplies. According to the organisation's official website, the shipment is being coordinated with Dr. Mtika at Norfolk Schools in Malawi to assist families who lost their homes and crops to the disaster.

Update: Regional efforts to simplify cross-border commerce advanced following a Southern African Development Community technical meeting in Dar es Salaam that concluded on March 27. According to SADC and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, Malawi is officially participating as one of four pilot member states in the Tripartite Simplified Trade Regime. The initiative aims to make agricultural exports more accessible and affordable for small-scale cross-border traders.

On the regional diplomatic front, Vice President Jane Ansah called on African nations to adopt broad strategies to overcome barriers to gender equality. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Ansah was represented by her daughter at a March 27 human rights event in Enugu, Nigeria. A keynote address was delivered on her behalf, urging governments across the continent to move beyond policy declarations and implement actionable steps to protect women's rights and support economic independence.
