In international diplomacy, Malawi highlighted its technological improvements in the legal sector during a virtual side event at the 70th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, Tech Africa News reports. Co-convened by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Gender, the presentation showcased the expanding e-Courts system and the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Digital Observatory Hub. Speaking on behalf of the UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Africa Regional Director Evelyne Bamba commended the country's progress in using digital tools to accelerate justice delivery and improve case reporting for vulnerable groups.

Update: Following earlier coverage of President Peter Mutharika hosting the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Panel of Elders, new details have emerged from the discussions. According to Nyasa Times and The Nation, Mutharika, acting as the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, issued a strong warning that ongoing conflicts within member states pose a direct threat to collective regional progress. During the meetings at Kamuzu Palace, former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete briefed Mutharika on active mediation efforts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, and Mozambique. Mutharika then urged the bloc to prioritise locally driven solutions to ensure lasting peace across Southern Africa. Former Malawi President Joyce Banda was also notably present at the meeting as the Panel's Vice Chairperson.
