Flames interim head coach Kalisto Pasuwa has called for a strong performance as Malawi prepares to face host nation Botswana in the third-place playoff of the Mukuru Four Nations Tournament today, according to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM). The Flames shifted their focus to securing a podium finish following a 9-8 penalty shootout defeat to Zambia, which followed a goalless draw in the semifinals over the weekend. Pasuwa confirmed the team will be without captain Richard Mbulu due to injury and defender Charles Petro, who has returned to his club in Romania. However, the coach expressed confidence that the remaining players have responded well mentally to the semifinal setback.

Update: Scorchers Name Provisional Squad for Kenya Tournament
In women's football, Scorchers head coach Lovemore Fazili has announced a 35-member provisional squad for the upcoming Four Nations FIFA Series Tournament scheduled to take place in Kenya from April 11 to 15. As reported by FAM, the selection highlights the return of versatile forward Temwa Chawinga, who last played for the national team in February 2025 against Zambia and is currently managing an injury. The squad also introduces Ascent Soccer Academy prospect Fatima Lali, while maintaining the core group of players who recently competed at the COSAFA Women's Championship.

FAM Approves 128 Referees for 2026 Elite Competitions
Meanwhile, the FAM Referees Standing Committee has officially approved 128 referees to officiate in the 2026 elite competitions. According to FAM, the approved list includes 17 FIFA-certified match officials and 111 local elite referees. FAM Referees Manager Duncan Lengani stated that the selection process prioritized physical fitness, experience, and a thorough knowledge of the laws of the game. Additionally, the committee cleared 116 referees to handle matches in the National Division League, National Women's League, and regional competitions as part of a referee succession plan for the new season.
