Malawi Launches Phase Two of Continental Agricultural Pest Surveillance Programme

Wednesday, April 1, 2026

The Government of Malawi has officially launched Phase Two of the African Phytosanitary Programme to improve pest and disease surveillance in the agriculture sector, MBC reported on April 1. The launch event took place in Salima.

The program aims to shift the country from paper-based systems to modern digital tools for tracking agricultural threats. The initiative advances Malawi's cooperation with continental agricultural protocols and is designed to protect food security from crop pests that continue to threaten the region's harvest.
