Update: Following the restructuring of its academic calendar, the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) aims to enroll 2,500 students across up to 35 programs by 2029, according to Ecofin Agency. Vice Chancellor Nancy Chitera presented the new semester-based system to Education Minister Bright Msaka, noting that the changes will allow students who fail a single subject to retake exams quickly without having to repeat the entire academic year.

To support the increased student population, the university plans to convert up to 900 existing housing units into student residences.

In other education news, applications for the government's Initial Primary Teacher Education program are set to close on April 5, 2026, the National Council for Higher Education reported. The two-year course provides training at public Teacher Training Colleges for candidates holding a Malawi School Certificate of Education, ultimately leading to a Primary Teaching Certificate.
