Update: The Malawi women's national football team, the Scorchers, have exited the COSAFA Women's Championship despite securing a 1-0 victory over Angola in their final Group A match, according to the Football Association of Malawi. An Ireen Khumalo freekick gave Malawi the win, but the team failed to advance to the semifinals. Head coach Lovemore Fazili stated that the tournament provided a valuable assessment ahead of their debut at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The team will maintain their training camp and integrate professional players before the upcoming continental tournament, the official FAM website reports.

In domestic football, the Football Association of Malawi has unveiled the nominees for the 2025/26 Castel Challenge Cup Individual Awards. The winners will be announced at the FAM Annual Football Awards on March 6, 2026. According to Maravi Express, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets forward Maxwell Phodo Gasten has already secured the Golden Boot with seven goals. Gasten and his teammate, goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu, are shortlisted for Player of the Tournament alongside Goshen City Dedza Dynamos goalkeeper Donex Mwakasinga.

Mwakasinga and Nyasulu are also contending for Best Goalkeeper, alongside Precious Masamba of the Blue Eagles. The Discovery of the Tournament accolade will be contested by Lameck Mithi of Moyale Barracks and Alex Msiska of Mzuzu City Hammers, according to the official FAM website. FCB Nyasa Big Bullets players dominate the overall awards shortlists following their recent Castel Cup and Airtel Top 8 triumphs, reports the Nyasa Big Bullets official club site.
