Police in Lilongwe have arrested 49-year-old Nelson Chipokosa as the prime suspect in a K392 million robbery that police say occurred on February 9 near Autotech Building, according to Face of Malawi. Face of Malawi reports that Police Deputy Publicist Alfred Chinthere said the victim was lured into a fake foreign-currency deal, assaulted by a group that fled in an unregistered vehicle, and that the stolen money was later distributed locally, adding that Chipokosa is also wanted in connection with a series of panga attacks, including one targeting CDEDI activist Sylvester Namiwa.

In Zomba, the Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court has sentenced nurse Reuben Anjiru Kaliza to three years in prison for assaulting a patient at Zomba Mental Hospital, according to Malawi Freedom Network. Malawi Freedom Network reports that Kaliza was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm to patient Joseph Mbale following an incident in October 2024, with the court hearing that Mbale suffered internal injuries to his spleen, and the magistrate saying the custodial sentence was meant to deter abuse of patients in health and mental health institutions.
