The Communications Regulators' Association of Southern Africa (CRASA) has urged SADC member states to align their information and communication technology regulations to better handle satellite technology, e-commerce, and cybercrime. According to The Malawi Guardian, the call was made during the 15th CRASA Annual General Meeting and 5G Regulatory Collaboration Summit held in Lilongwe. During the event, Malawi's Minister of Information reaffirmed the country's dedication to advancing digital development and improving regional oversight.

Former Malawi President Joyce Banda joined other regional leaders in Johannesburg, South Africa, for a joint statutory meeting of the SADC Panel of Elders and the Mediation Reference Group on April 11. According to the SADC Secretariat, the panel reaffirmed its commitment to effectively operationalise the SADC Mediation, Conflict Prevention and Preventive Diplomacy Structure. The committee also requested steady financial support to maintain SADC's early warning security systems.

Update: Amnesty International has issued a formal urgent action pressing the Malawian government to compensate refugees and asylum seekers for confiscated property. According to Amnesty International Ireland, authorities seized 79 shipping containers from a Congolese refugee and 38 others in May 2023, and later auctioned the goods on March 11. The international human rights organisation stated that the lack of a transparent claims process violates Malawi's constitutional property rights and international obligations, and it demanded immediate remedies for the affected individuals.
