Update: Thousands of Malawians displaced by recent severe flooding are returning to ruined homes as the Department of Disaster Management Affairs begins decommissioning evacuation camps across the country, according to Nyasa Times. The camp closures follow a highly destructive rainy season that affected nearly 70,000 households and left at least 34 people dead.

In Zomba, where over 30,000 residents were impacted, District Commissioner Musandide Frederick Missinjo confirmed that camp closures have forced families to rebuild with minimal resources, as reported by allAfrica. Traditional leaders, including Traditional Authority Kuntumanji, are now appealing for soft loans to help affected communities secure financial support for their recovery.

Meanwhile, the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has forecast occasionally windy and partly cloudy conditions for April 14. The weather update indicates a continuing risk of isolated thunderstorms and rain, which are expected to be locally heavy primarily over lakeshore areas.
