A major development for Malawi's digital entertainment sector occurred this week as senior executives from Meta and TikTok arrived in the country for an engagement with local creatives. According to Nyasa Times, the meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe. Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) Director General Mayamiko Nkoloma confirmed the visit, which is viewed as a positive step for the local digital economy.

The upcoming discussions will focus on monetisation opportunities for Malawian content creators on major global platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok. MACRA official Limbani Nsapato stated that at least 1,900 creatives registered for the event, though a selected group has received formal invitations. Nyasa Times reports that many local entertainers and creators currently struggle to earn direct revenue from their work unless they register in foreign countries. Stakeholders hope this engagement will open doors for fair compensation, international exposure, and sustained digital growth for Malawi's creative industry.
