Minister of Information and Communications Technology Shadric Namalomba has called for seamless cross-border digital connectivity across the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Speaking at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe during a G5 SCADA conference with representatives from 14 countries, Namalomba stated that regulatory barriers must be removed to allow straightforward mobile money transactions between member states, according to Nyasa Times.

In another international engagement, senior executives from Meta and TikTok have arrived in Malawi for meetings with local content creators, Nyasa Times reports. The delegation, facilitated by the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), will hold discussions to explore how Malawian creatives can monetize their content on global platforms and participate directly in the international digital economy.

Additionally, the SADC is preparing to launch regional security and maritime exercises to coordinate responses to transnational crimes and protect trade routes. As part of this initiative, Malawi is developing its operational concept to participate in Exercise Migebuka, a joint inland water security event that will be co-hosted by Tanzania and Zambia on Lake Tanganyika, according to ADF Magazine.
